Cycling has grown to be one of the most popular forms of leisure sports. On bikes people of all ages are able to enjoy the sportive activity, the clean air and - being alongside the Danube – the beautiful natural scenery.
The Danube, the most fascinating river in Europe, can easily be explored by bike. With an entire length of 2.845 (1768 miles), the Danube Cycling Trail offers one of the nicest opportunities to get to know the river. The route almost entirely follows the river bank, along the fascinating diversity of changing landscapes and untouched nature, as well as impressive structures and some of the most beautiful cities in Central Europe. Off the arterial roads one can enjoy that wonderful sport safely. The route chosen can easily be adapted to the individual condition of the cyclist. Sportive tourists can cycle through numerous countries and get to know the people living on the Danube. In case the cyclist wants to rest, he or she can simply board a ship (the bike transport is complimentary on most Danube liners) and watch the shore pass slowly by. Whoever has not brought a bike with him or her can rent one along the Danube.
Most tour operators offer cycling trips along the Danube and one can choose from a broad variety of offers, routes, accommodations, excursions and even “bike ships”. You can order a list of the operators.
